I just added several NEW stamp sets from Altenew to the store and I was DYING to try out the Coffee with a Splash set! I needed to make a card for my son’s teacher (because apparently making cards is a thing I do now) and I figured I’d use the new set and give it a shot.
I stenciled the background of the larger card base from Darice (A7 size I believe) using the Rose Pattern from Layering Stencil Set #14 from Stamper’s Anonymous and Tim Holtz using Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink and a little ink dabber.
I inked the background blue in Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide. Honestly, I had a piece of Altenew Solar Crest Cardstock that was cut to 4×6 to use for this layer but this square piece worked really well (it was one of my practice pieces) so I used what I had! I actually stamped the coffee cup using Distress Ink Prize Ribbon first and then stamped the image again on another piece of CS using Jet Black Archival Ink from Ranger. That is pretty much my go to black ink (just always remember to heat set it!)
I added a little Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide over the coffee cup and then stenciled a couple of dots with Distress Ink. When I want a darker ink, I go with Distress, if I want to do “ink blending” I’ll use Oxide.
Then I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from the set called Slimline So Sweet from Colorado Craft Company using Distress Prize Ribbon, and embossed with the embossing dabber and Distress Embossing Glaze, also Prize Ribbon. (I also really like to stamp with Distress ink and emboss with clear embossing power from Ranger, it gives a similar look but this time I wanted it to really pop). I stenciled the rose pattern over the embossed phrase (you can stencil first then emboss but I don’t always do things in the “right” order.
Cut the sentiment apart and trim it and then trim around the black stamped coffee cup (if you haven’t already). Pop everything up with foam tape (the blue background is stuck down with 1/2″ Scor-Pal tape). I used one of the sentiments from the set for the inside as well, it says “May your coffee be strong and your day be sweet”
